Overcoming...
I wasn't sure how to finish the title of this post.
Overcoming setbacks, overcoming negative self image, overcoming life... any of these and so many more fit.
It's been a hard week or so.
My 33rd birthday came and went. Didn't celebrate on the day of like I had planned, but I was able to celebrate a few days later with friends at a party here at my home. I honestly felt amazing having friends here to celebrate my day.
Food wise, it's not been a good week. Friday for my birthday I ate lots of party food and there were homemade margaritas. Saturday for the duck game and lunch there was nacho's and dip, then pizza for dinner and lots of alcohol. Yesterday there was a food indulgence that I'm still trying to get my mind around. I didn't want it, it wasn't good, but I had it any how.
Working out wise, I've been terrible. Last week I worked out twice. It was so hot I couldn't bring myself to do it. Still haven't gotten back on the elliptical. It's been over a week now.
Sunday we started participating in a new fitness program called TrackTown Fitness.
The track was amazing. I'd never seen a professional track in person like that. There were almost 200 people there for the inaugural day of the program. Walking on the track felt amazing. Completely different that walking on a sidewalk or street. I didn't stretch, and I have plantar fasciitis, both of which kicked my ass without my knowing it though. When we got home I hard a hard time getting out of the car, my foot was hurting so bad. It only got worse during the day. Yesterday morning I woke up with less pain, but it felt like I literally had a ball under my foot. I made an appt. for the doctor today to be seen. Mom told me to roll my foot on a frozen bottle of water and to have ibuprofen. Today I woke up feeling better, but kept my appt. with the doctor anyhow. My doctor told me I was doing the right thing, and gave me some exercises to do every day, especially before working out. I also found out that she was at the track Sunday morning with her daughter and she was thrilled that I was there. She shared an article with me that says you get 95% or more of the same benefits of jogging as you do when walking. That was surprising for me as I always thought running was much better.
I got a clean bill of health, but, still didn't get on the elliptical today. My steps also suck at only 4,811 right now. I can only hope to get better. Since I came home after the doctor instead of returning to work that's really bad.
Oh well, tomorrow is another day, today is (almost) gone.

To all citizens of TrackTown,
As we continue to grow and develop and look for new ways to make our great community even better, Vin Lananna would like to personally invite you to take part in our inaugural TrackTown Fitness program. He will conduct the first session Sunday, Sept. 20 at 8 a.m. at Hayward Field. This free program is open to all and will continue every Sunday through the fall. It’s designed to teach anyone the fundamentals of how to run or walk for better health. It will also serve as an on-ramp for other community training programs in January.
The TrackTown Fitness program is based on the concepts first taught by University of Oregon track and field coach Bill Bowerman more than 50 years ago. His community jogging classes have been credited with sparking the running boom in the U.S. and we intend to use those same principles to make Oregon the healthiest state in the country by the time we host the IAAF World Championships at Hayward Field in 2021.
If you’ve ever wanted to be an active runner or walker but didn’t know where to start, this is your chance to learn the path to better overall fitness in a fun, social and welcoming environment. Participation in local road runs is one of the most popular avenues to a healthy lifestyle and we believe this program will provide you with an important first step in making such events as the Eugene Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K more accessible as a runner, jogger or walker.I was excited for this new opportunity for fitness and Sunday we were there, bright and early. It starts at 8:00 am on Sunday mornings. Yeah, the one sleep-in morning Babe and I have together. But we got up, and went, I was pretty proud of us for that alone.
